An executive is anyone who by the virtue of his/her position is responsible for a contribution that materially effects the capacity of their organization to perform and to obtain results.  Many executive positions are thankless jobs that hold a lot of responsibility.  Chance are that you oversee or contribute to multiple departments.  The most effective executives are the type of people that can be dropped into any situation, quickly make sense of it, see key issues, discard distractions, clarify the way forward and develop a plan to get people executing.

The best executives have to be resilient, focus on execution, think strategically, are able to self-reflect and inspire their people.
